My name is Mazal Afari.

I am 65 years old.

I live in Kfar Yavetz a Moshave in central Israel. I have a wonderful husband named Moshe, four sons, four daughters, and 21 grandchildren! I was born in small village in Yemen. When I was two years old, I lost both of my parents. My brothers, Yehiel, Shlomo and I were left orphaned. In our village, orphaned Jewish children were often kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam and live with a Muslim family. We felt we had no choice but to flee. Our travels brought us across the country to a Jewish Agency refugee camp in Aden. After the state of Israel was founded, we emigrated to the newly founded Jewish state where we attended boarding school. In Israel I found life! I found love! I found family! And now I spend my days engrossed in my faith, reading the Psalms of my people, doting on my grandchildren and volunteering at the senior center.

On July 7, 2003, I was at home looking after three of my grandchildren while my husband was at Synagogue with my son Nadav. As usual my door was left open for any of our neighbors and friends to stop by. Palestinian terrorist Ahmad Yehiyeh of Jenin, snuck into my home. He wore a belt laced with explosives around his waist, and once inside he detonated the bomb. The blast caused my roof to collapse and I was crushed to death under the weight of the rubble. My three grandchildren were mercifully spared with only minor injuries.

My name is Mazal Afari. I am 65 years old.  And I am one of The Fallen Faces.
